Description
Administrative head-quarters of Agra District on the Jumna, the fourth city of the United Provinces, and the former Mughal capital of the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort.
Historical notes
Capital of the North-Western Provinces from 1836 until the government moved to Allahabad after 1857 (Agra remained a divisional and judicial centre).
