Description
Ancient pilgrimage city on the Sarayu, entered in the Imperial Gazetteer as Ajodhya, adjoining the district head-quarters of Fyzabad.
Historical notes
The Gazetteer notes that under Akbar the city became the capital of a Subah and that in the eighteenth century it was for a time the nominal head-quarters of the early Nawabs of Oudh.
