Description
Head-quarters of Belgaum District at nearly 2,500 feet, with a large cantonment guarding the Southern Maratha country.
Historical notes
Its fort was taken in 1818; the 1924 Congress session presided over by Gandhi was held at Belgaum. Now Belagavi.
