Description
Head-quarters of Malabar District on the Malabar coast, the landfall of Vasco da Gama in 1498 and a major timber and pepper port.
Historical notes
Ceded to the Company after the Third Anglo-Mysore War (1792); gave its name to 'calico'. Now Kozhikode.
