Description
Chief port of eastern Bengal and head-quarters of the Chittagong Division and District, with a 1901 town population of 22,140.
Historical notes
Ceded to the East India Company in 1760; the Imperial Gazetteer entry reflects the post-1905 province of Eastern Bengal and Assam. Colonial variants include Chatgaon and Chattagram; now officially Chattogram.
