Description
District head-quarters in the valley between the Siwaliks and the Himalayas, referred to in the Gazetteer's Rajpur entry as lying on the main road to Mussoorie.
Historical notes
Annexed after the Anglo-Nepalese War of 1814-16; home of the Survey of India headquarters (1816), the Imperial Forest Research Institute (1906) and later the Indian Military Academy (1932). Colonial spelling Dehra Doon; now Dehradun.
