Description
Chief town of Ellichpur District in Berar; the Imperial Gazetteer notes the district's history 'centres in that of Ellichpur, the chief town'.
Historical notes
Capital of the Imad Shahi dynasty of Berar (1484-1575); after the 1853 Assignment the administrative headquarters moved to Amraoti, and the adjoining civil station was Paratwada. Renamed Achalpur.
