Description
Town of the Northern Circars with a 1901 population of 30,833 according to the Imperial Gazetteer, and a leading tobacco and cotton market.
Historical notes
Part of the Circars ceded to the Company in 1788; a separate Guntur District had existed 1859-1904 within the Madras Presidency before being re-created out of Kistna District. Spelling now Guntur/Gunturu.
