Description
Capital of Jaipur State, the largest Rajputana state by population, with a 1901 city population of 160,167 according to the Imperial Gazetteer.
Historical notes
Planned on a grid by Sawai Jai Singh II in 1727 and in treaty relations with the British from 1818; became capital of Rajasthan in 1949.
