Description
Bundelkhand district head-quarters 'with cantonment' per the Imperial Gazetteer, on the road from Cawnpore, and a great railway junction.
Historical notes
Annexed under the doctrine of lapse in 1854, provoking Rani Lakshmibai's resistance in 1857-58; the fort was stormed by Rose's force in April 1858.
