Description
Divisional and district head-quarters of the Doab between the Beas and Sutlej; the Gazetteer notes it was 'a large city... the capital of a Rajput kingdom' when visited by Hiuen Tsiang.
Historical notes
The Jullundur Doab was annexed after the First Anglo-Sikh War in 1846; the cantonment was one of the principal Punjab garrisons. Now Jalandhar.
