Description
Capital of Junagadh State at the foot of the Girnar hills, the leading Muslim-ruled state of Kathiawar under the Babi Nawabs.
Historical notes
Entered British protection in 1807; its Nawab's accession to Pakistan in 1947 was overturned by Indian intervention and a plebiscite in February 1948. Also spelled Junagarh.
