Description
Capital of the Punjab province, annexed with the Sikh kingdom in 1849 and the administrative and educational centre of north-western British India.
Historical notes
Seat of the Punjab Lieutenant-Governor, the Punjab University (1882) and the province's high court; became a Pakistani provincial capital at partition in 1947.
