Description
Last royal capital of Burma, founded in 1857, and after annexation the head-quarters of Mandalay District and Division in Upper Burma.
Historical notes
King Thibaw was deposed and exiled when the British occupied the city in the Third Anglo-Burmese War (1885); Upper Burma was annexed to British India on 1 January 1886. Burma was separated from India in 1937.
