Description
Frontier city and district headquarters at the mouth of the Khyber Pass, and the principal garrison town of the North-West Frontier.
Historical notes
Annexed with the Punjab in 1849 and transferred to the new North-West Frontier Province created in November 1901; base for frontier expeditions and the Khyber trade.
