Description
Irrawaddy river town and district head-quarters, terminus of the Rangoon-Prome railway opened in 1877.
Historical notes
Annexed with Pegu after the Second Anglo-Burmese War in 1852 and long the frontier station facing the Burmese kingdom upriver. Now Pyay.
