Description
Sittang valley town and district head-quarters; the Imperial Gazetteer notes the district's two municipalities were Toungoo and Shwegyin.
Historical notes
Capital of the 16th-century Toungoo dynasty and, after 1852, the British frontier post on the route to the Shan hills. Now Taungoo.
